So, Im sure everyone has hopped online and made it to the top of the diamond ladder, but how many of you have taken time out to play the single player?

After 10 years of waiting, I have to say its fkn awesome. The single player is AWESOME. The campaign has me sucked in wondering whats going to happen next, Im seriously less focused on getting all the achievements on each level, just so I can see more of the story quicker~.

If you have SC2 installed, dont be a retard and not play the single player, seriously, the diamond ladder will be there next week.

I booted it up yesterday and played through the first few missions. I'm liking it so far. However, I'm getting hung up on doing achievements, which is really slowing my progress. I haven't played SC since 2000 or so, so trying to do stuff like Win on Hard in 10 minutes is taking a few tries as I knock the rust off, so to speak. My first three tries on the relic level clocked in at 10'13" or less, which is annoying as Hell.

I plan on doing the full campaign, and probably all the camp based achievements, before I hop online. Mostly because I suck.

Also, the medic voicework is sexy. Mmmm baby. Is it wrong that their death scream kinda turns me on? Razz

I'm playing through hard right now. I've gotten most of the mission achievements, but the trickier ones I'm going to set aside for now. Trying to stop the toss from capping off that terrizine gas on the extraction mission is a bitch on hard.

I'm starting to play through it. Played a few missions on hard, also getting slowed down trying to do some of the achievements lol

Favorite quote that sums up the whiny people (not here, just elsewhere)

Wahhhhhhh... I can't afford to pay another $40.00 two years from now, I want one SC2 game with a 52 hour campaign featuring all three races, wahhhhhhhhh.

I beat the campaign on normal today. I liked the story but they really could've done more with it. It felt like what it probably was originally, a ~10 mission arc for Terran that got stretched into an almost 30 mission campaign. Most of the side character lines seemed kinda irrelevant to the rest of the SC universe.

That said, I'm gonna be playing this game to death getting the rest of the achievements and playing tons of multiplayer. Up to 1000+ achievement points already hehe. I can't decide if I want to google how to unlock the secret mission or try to figure it out myself. I saw it on the achievement lists but not in my archive at all which was pissing me off.

I also played a couple of my 1v1 placement matches tonight and boy are there some noobs on. Compared to beta this is a walk in the park.

I played it on Normal to get the storyline, gonna try to finish it on Brutal next.

Side stories are kinda lame, especially since you don't get unit tech if you don't do them. Although, I don't really think a lot of the units you get in the side missions are really great for anything except that one mission (ie. Vultures).

so this is a legit question.

i've never played the first starcraft. I grew up with Command and Conquer and RA1 and 2. the newer ones didnt really pull me in. Also dabbled with Age of Empires Razz . Been awhile since i've played an RTS. Been pondering if now is the time to rejoin the genre.

1. Why should i pick this up.
2. Should i pick up the first game in order to appreciate the sequel?
3. Any other comments you guys feel is needed?

Some of the brutal maps really deserve the name. I'm playing through on hard, I may do brutal eventually but for now I'd like to keep my stress levels low. Working this much overtime is bad enough, I don't need to go home and be angry at my pc for 3 hours before passing out.

1) it's a pretty amazing game imho. There are a lot of diverse builds (even for zerg, which is probably the least diverse race lole) and strategies you can use which keeps the game fun. Also the map has a lot to do with what strategies you'd want to use.
2) if you want. If you buy the collectors edition (~$40 extra) you get a usb flash drive shaped like jimmy raynor's dogtags that has sc1 and broodwar on it in addition to other goodies (thor pet, etc). I'd play sc1 for the story (it was pretty good) but nothing else is especially good (RIP lurker). Although it will adequately prepare you for the returning units in the sc2 campaign.

3) The single player alone i think is worth buying the game. Although its much different than the multiplayer

Also on another note:
50 minute ZvZ on desert oasis makes my head explode. But thank god infestors are over powered (i wish fungal growth worked on ultralisks =[)

ya ditto siven, i couldnt get past the gas collection map on brutal so im going through in hard. Ask- RTSes usually fall flat because they are notoriously hard games to balance. SC2 is incredibly balanced and easy to pick up. The only thing I'm not a fan of is that w/ the beta, the ranked games can be very difficult. I barely play RTSes, and i can barely scrap by in 1v1 in the bronze league.
